The OO.o Scribbles PPA description reads as follows:

“Empty for now, will likely have OOo 3.2.0/3.2.1 debs for Karmic/Lucid later in the cycle.

“If you want OOo 3.1.1 upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic).

“Also has OOo 3.1.1 debs for Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy) – unsupported.”

Unfortunately, we’re at the mercy of the PPA maintainers. Since using PPAs don’t provide official packages, we have to accept whatever consequences arise from using them.

Just tried the above procedure with Jaunty (9.04) and it led to know updates. There don’t appear to be any jaunty packages available on that package repository.

@rps – Unfortunately, people who are depending on the full lifetime of the LTS can’t accept an upgrade to Jaunty as a solution. Luckily, 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx is about six months away from release, but that won’t help current 8.04 users.

It’s an odd decision to drop support for OO.o 3.1 for pre-current Ubuntu, but the Scribbler’s PPA homepage explains that time constraints on the administrators are making it difficult. There is a promise that if a pending computer purchase speeds up build times, Hardy and Intrepid packages may return.

Agree with Carl… Replacing “jaunty” with “hardy” in the above instructions leads to no updates. As an alternative, I tried using the “jaunty” update on a hardy machine. Not surprisingly, this led to problems. While the update manager does attempt to install some of the 3.1 OO packages, it fails with several dependency errors. Looks like an upgrade to jaunty should be a recommended pre-requisite.

Looks like only the Jaunty version is now available (17Sep) – not sure why – been working well for the past few months. Hardy Packages.gz is empty.

There might have been a connectivity issue, but I assure you, the link for the key is alive and well. There was an issue I encountered with another individual who couldn't reach the keyserver for whatever reason. We postulated that it could have been an issue with the proxy he was using. I had to copy/paste the key from the keyserver's page to a pastebin post so the user could import it. In case you're having the same issue, I've saved it HERE in a plaintext file. While that may solve a temporary connectivity issue with the keyserver, it should not be relied upon as I am not a trusted source. You should always attain required keys from trusted repositories like Ubuntu's keyserver.
