gOS 3 Gadgets ScreenshotgOS, first introduced at Wal-Mart installed on the Everex Green gPC nearly a year ago, has now matured to a third version. gOS 3 Gadgets is built on top of Ubuntu 8.04.1 and prominently features the inclusion of Google Gadgets. Aside from the Gadgets, Google Documents, Mail, and Calendar will launch in Mozilla prizm windows for a more desktop app feel. The latest Wine 1.0 is installed as well for the more advanced user to enable the operation of some Windows applications, like that which is notably absent from the Google list, Google Chrome.

The good people over at gOS Community Portal have an excellent tutorial that shows how to run gOS from an USB thumb drive. Since gOS is being marketed for the netbook class of laptops (IE: Eee PC, Cloudbook, AspireOne), if one doesn’t have an external CD drive handy, knowing how to boot and install gOS from a thumbdrive is essential.
